Below is an email that I sent to Fred’s family and friends in August 2004.

This morning I received a call from Fred's wife Linda to let me know that Fred passed away in his sleep last night.

I first met Fred in 1956 at Farview School when we were in the fourth grade. We stayed friends throughout high school, after high school, after he got out of the Army, and even after he moved to Florida over 20 years ago. I've enjoyed many of the best times of my life with Freddy which included our many forays to Upstate New York in a drunken state of madness (he was a lot safer than McGrath behind the wheel), double dating with Marti Sender, racing cars on Rte. 17 (not to mention the parking lot of PHS when he beat Johnny Woods' Corvette), going to Miami Dolphin football games, playing literally thousands of games of pool, and the infamous 3-day rafting trip down the Colorado that many of us went on.

Freddy was simply a great all around guy, a good father, husband, and the best friend anyone could hope. For 40-years he sent me a birthday card and gave me a call to wish me a happy birthday. Only Micki See comes close.

All of you knew him in one way or another, and I thought you might like to know. I consider myself lucky to have had him as a friend for so long. The best friends are old friends.
